Superintendents Show Opposition to Education Bill

Superintendents from many small rural North Dakota schools came to the capitol today to complain about the direction of efforts to re-write the state s education funding plan 48 Superintendents have signed a letter opposing the bill that s being proposed The bill pumps 82-million dollars into school funding in an effort to equalize payments to schools The bill is in response to a lawsuit filed by nine schools over what they say is inequitable funding The complaint with the new bill is mainly from western school districts with a lot of property and few students The superintendents who came to the capitol say their schools will get only a tiny part of the 82-million dollars Murray Kline Alexander Superintendent There are 100 school districts involved that are small and will suffer for various reasons under this bill We re here because this is life or death for us as far as we are concerned We want our voices heard Small school administrators had a meeting with legislators and Lieutenant Governor Jack Dalrymple Donnell Preskey will have more on what those educators told lawmakers tonight at ten
